For many car enthusiasts, a Ferrari is the epitome of automotive fascination. However, not everyone can or wants to buy a brand-new model. Some prefer older vehicles with character, while others seek a more affordable alternative. In fact, around 90 percent of all Ferraris ever built still exist – meaning the supply of pre-owned cars is substantial. Yet, choosing one of these sports cars can be a challenge. This is precisely where the «Ferrari Approved» program comes in: it aims to provide buyers with greater security. We visited Maranello to find out what it’s all about.

The program includes a detailed inspection of each vehicle to ensure the highest quality while also making costs more predictable for buyers. A key component is the originality check, which confirms that the car is in its original factory condition. Additionally, the vehicle and service history are certified. The package also includes roadside assistance, a one-year subscription to a Ferrari magazine, and a two-year warranty, which is transferable to subsequent owners.
A particularly exciting feature: buyers can customize their Ferrari with original parts via the Ferrari Genuine Configurator. The «Approved» program is available exclusively at official Ferrari dealerships.
This initiative is part of a three-tier system for certification, maintenance, and warranty, which varies depending on the age of the vehicle. The «Ferrari Approved» program applies to models between one and fifteen years old, with a maximum mileage of 120,000 kilometers – a threshold that, according to the manufacturer, is rarely exceeded.
For vehicles older than 20 years, there is the «Ferrari Classiche» certification program. Meanwhile, the «Ferrari Premium» program is designed for models between 10 and 20 years old, though it primarily serves as a maintenance package rather than a certification.

To see how it all works in practice, we visited a Ferrari workshop in Bologna. The spotless facility, with its bright tiles, felt like a time machine transporting us back to the 1980s. Inside, Ferraris from various eras were undergoing different stages of restoration. The head mechanic walked us through the inspection process, and we got a closer look at the comprehensive checklist: up to 201 inspection points ensure a thorough assessment, far exceeding a standard vehicle check-up.
The process begins with a visual inspection and professional photo documentation. This is followed by technical tests, a comparison with the original documentation, and a 40-minute test drive. Finally, all fluids are inspected. The entire process takes around six to seven hours—a level of effort that is clearly reflected in the car’s quality. Any defective or worn parts are systematically replaced.
Ferrari dealers typically invest between €5,000 and €10,000 in this inspection and reconditioning process. Approximately 95 percent of the vehicles tested receive the «Approved» certificate. Even highly limited models from the «Icona» and «Supercar» series undergo this rigorous evaluation.
An especially important aspect for buyers of hybrid models like the SF90 or the 296: the batteries can also be covered under warranty – a key consideration for many customers.

With «Ferrari Approved», the manufacturer offers one of the most comprehensive pre-owned vehicle programs, bringing these cars close to the level of new models. This opens up new opportunities for Ferrari fans—whether it’s fulfilling the dream of owning a Ferrari or elegantly bridging the waiting time for a new model.
