Epa, if you had to describe IRÄYE in just a few words, what makes the brand unique?
Dr. Epa Gousopoulos:
IRÄYE was not created from a marketing strategy or a traditional business plan. It emerged from a scientific research project. Originally, our goal was to develop a pharmaceutical treatment. Our research focused on the lymphatic system, particularly conditions that occur after oncological surgery.
During this process, we discovered powerful mechanisms in natural plant extracts. These compounds were not suitable as pharmaceutical drugs, but they showed enormous potential for improving skin health.
The combination of deep lymphatic biology research and highly effective natural ingredients is extremely rare. This is exactly what makes IRÄYE unique.
From Scientific Research to a Skincare Brand
Elvin:
How did the idea for the brand actually emerge? Was it a spontaneous moment?
Epa:
Not at all. My co founder Michael, a professor at the ETH Zurich, and I spent many years working purely in scientific research. We filed patents and initially planned to license the technology.
At the same time several startups were emerging from our institute. I actually had to convince Michael that we should build the company ourselves.
Two physicians launching a commercial skincare brand was both a bold and demanding decision. At the same time it was also a very logical one.
Where Medicine Meets Aesthetics
Elvin:
IRÄYE connects medicine with aesthetics. How do you balance these two worlds?
Epa:
IRÄYE is a physician led brand with a strong medical foundation. At the same time we believe aesthetics is an essential part of quality of life.
Our products are medical grade skincare. They are scientifically developed, clinically tested and free from exaggerated promises. By activating the lymphatic system we can visibly improve skin texture, facial contours and overall radiance.
For me IRÄYE represents the aesthetics of life. It is science that meaningfully improves everyday wellbeing.
The Meaning Behind the Name IRÄYE
Elvin:
What does the name IRÄYE actually mean?
Epa:
IRÄYE is an invented name composed of the words I and Ray, representing light, radiance and energy.
When the lymphatic system is activated fluid retention in the tissue is reduced. The skin becomes smoother and reflects light better. People begin to radiate.
That exact feeling of natural radiance is what IRÄYE represents.
Sustainable Innovation in Skincare
Elvin:
Sustainability is a major topic in beauty today. How does IRÄYE combine environmental responsibility with innovation?
Epa:
Our active ingredients are derived from sustainably sourced plant extracts, many of them originating in Switzerland.
More than 95 percent of our formulations are naturally derived and some even reach 99 percent natural origin while still delivering clinically proven results.
From the very beginning we wanted packaging that was refillable and fully recyclable. At the time there were almost no solutions available so we developed our own.
For us sustainability has never been a trend. It has always been a core principle.
Minimalist Design with Swiss DNA
Elvin:
IRÄYE’s visual design is very minimalistic. How important is visual language to the brand?
Epa:
It is extremely important.
Our aesthetic is calm, minimal and intentionally not overloaded. Colors such as beige, white and yellow represent clarity, light and Swiss elegance.
When something is scientifically complex the visual language must be even clearer.
What Is True Beauty?
Elvin:
How do you personally define true beauty?
Epa:
True beauty is sustainable and authentic.
IRÄYE does not add anything artificial. Instead we reveal what is already there. By improving skin health, reducing inflammation and supporting natural biological processes we help people show the best version of themselves without changing who they are.

Were there people or institutions that shaped your journey?
Epa:
My co founder Michael. Without his scientific depth IRÄYE would not exist.
The ETH Zurich also had a profound influence on me. It teaches that science should give something back to society.

Epa:
To democratize scientifically grounded beauty that is personalized, natural and effective.
The Future of Lymphatic Skincare
Elvin:
Where do you see IRÄYE in five years?
Epa:
We want to grow without losing our identity. Scientifically we will continue integrating new discoveries and advancing the field of lymphatic skincare.
Our goal is to be perceived as a pioneer, similar to how Tesla transformed the automotive industry. The first to open a new path and prove that it works.
Global Expansion
Elvin:
Which markets will be particularly important in the future?
Epa:
Europe is already a major milestone for us. Next will be the United States, Asia and Latin America.
At the same time we are developing specialized products for different skin needs and age groups. The coming years will be very dynamic.

How should people feel when they use IRÄYE?
Epa:
I hope they feel that they are truly taking care of themselves.
Not artificially altered but strengthened. Visibly healthier, clearer and more radiant.
